Increasing depth is to the right. The zone of intense surface weathering
extends to a depth of about 30 m, below which is basaltic andesite
(microdiorite). The whitish rocks are punky to friable and have been
severely leached of most cations, excluding Si and Al. However, the
original rock type can be readily identified using immobile-element
plots, which indicate that they are also basaltic andesites. |
